This kit is a general-purpose speedometer and cluster controller for Toyota Altezza / Lexus IS platforms. It has two signal inputs and two signal outputs, plus two calibration pots, so you can correct inaccurate speed and RPM signals after a swap. RPM issues on these clusters are often a calibration / cylinder-count mismatch — this device is built to solve that.

A major problem this kit also solves is drive voltage for the cluster. Many swaps need cluster modifications or added resistors to get needles working. This unit provides both high-voltage and low-voltage outputs for speed and RPM, so no speedo or tach modification is required in most cases. For RPM, the source can be an ignitor high output or an ECU low output — all combinations are supported.

Speed calibration is available for changes in gear ratios, differential ratios, and manual or automatic gearbox speed sensors.

Another feature is 1-wire BEAN / MPX network support. Our device also acts as an interface between an aftermarket ECU and the factory BEAN/MPX network found in 90s/00s Toyota and Lexus vehicles — translating BEAN messages to a more common CANBUS format (and back) so you can delete the factory ECU without a messy standalone install while retaining cluster functionality.

That same BEAN/MPX path supports factory-style features such as air conditioning request and temperature gauges, and can expand into unused factory cluster functions where available. It works with common standalone ECU CAN setups (including Haltech-style IO Box / Haltech CAN, MaxxECU default CAN stream, and customizable CAN used by Link, Emtron, and similar). Analog inputs can be taken from the aftermarket ECU or sensors and carried over CAN when ECU IO is limited — for switches, pressure, and temperature — so the cluster can show gear position, alternator charging, engine coolant temperature, and related data.

Use cases

Ideal when the base car and the swapped engine do not share the same cylinder count or signal expectations. Common base engines include 4-cylinder setups such as the 3S-GE BEAMS, or 6-cylinder factories like the 1G-FE and 2JZ-GE. Popular swap targets include the 2JZ-GTE, 3UZ, and LS — where RPM and speed signals often need recalibration to work correctly on the Altezza / IS cluster.

Also suited to drivetrain changes: different gearboxes (manual or auto), gear ratios, differential ratios, or speed sensors that throw off indicated speed. Use the dual calibration pots and high/low voltage outputs on both speed and RPM channels to restore accurate gauges without cutting into the cluster — whether RPM comes from an ignitor (high) or ECU (low).

For builds with an aftermarket ECU, use BEAN/MPX ↔ CAN support to keep the factory cluster alive after removing the OEM ECU — including A/C request, temp gauges, gear position, charging status, and coolant temperature from CAN or analog inputs.
